The Spring Festival: Lunar New Year Experience at Avant Gardner

The Spring Festival: Lunar New Year Experience at Avant Gardner

Chinese and Asian culture combined with electronic music was the best way to describe the unique and festive experience at Avant Gardner this February. In 2023, we first celebrated the Lunar New Year with electronic dance artists Gryffin and KSHMR. Pulse Events was responsible for bringing the event to the Great Hall at Avant Gardner in the heart of East Williamsburg. The 2 day event brought a slew of established and up and coming supporting artists.  This was the first dance music event in the United States centered around the Spring Festival which marks the new year and the beginning of Spring on the lunar calendar.

Pulse events brought the second annual Spring Festival back to Avant Gardner February 18 and 19, 2024, courtesy of Pulse Events. Pulse Events has become an expert on the Asian-American market, creating live performances in combination with culture and music. The Lunar New Year is a 15-day celebration and 2024 marks the Year of the Dragon. CEO of Pulse Events, Luffy Hang, wanted to celebrate these traditions with the dance music culture with lion dancing, decorations and more.

Setting the Stage: Lunar Festival

This 2-day festival took over the indoor portions of Brooklyn Mirage- Kings Hall and the Great Hall. The open air area was transformed into a raver’s paradise full of activities and a homage to the Asian Community. The walkways and lounges between the two venues were filled with red lights, festive decor, dragons, red paper cut lanterns, red envelopes and more. The lounge was also filled with a night market, providing fans a unique experience between exploring musicians such as lunar makeup and face gems, a fortune wall, and stations with red envelope activities.  There was a wishing wall where you would write down your dreams and attach them to the wall.  The photo booth was a major hit as friends and couples got their shot in. The kandi bracelet making station was also a popular activity among the crowd.

Topping off the activities was the Dragon dance performance. This is a form of traditional dance and performance in Chinese culture. This was beautifully executed with the vibrant colors and precise movement of the dancers.

Exploring Artist Lineup

Headliners SLANDER, Trivecta, Alan Walker, and Henry Fong gave fans a unique range of electronic dance music including bass, house, techno, and trance. Fans could wander from The Great Hall to hear heavy bass beats, over to the Great Hall for lighter house vibes.

Highlighting Star Performers

The two-day event had a remarkable lineup that filled up both venues at all hours of the night. On night 1, Trivecta took over with his beautiful house vibes that kept the room dancing full of energy. SLANDER closed out the night with heavy bass, and fans jumping and head banging throughout the venue. On night two, Henry Fong brought the energy with heavy, fast techno. One of the highlights was seeing DJ SunrYse behind the decks in Kings Hall playing her melodic beats, a local NYC artist.  Alan Walker closed out the festival and had the crowd singing and dancing nonstop with his catchy, melodic tunes.

Spring Festival Stages and Atmosphere

If you have never entered the hallowed halls of the magnificent Brooklyn Mirage, it is a sight to be seen. Open season concludes around November and commences in early May.  The indoor spaces, the Great Hall and Kings Hall are open year round.  The decorations throughout Avant Gardner were unforgettable and brought so much culture into the space. There were red lights, ceilings topped with Chinese fans and lanterns, and Chinese dragons dancing throughout the VIP sections. The Great Hall had a giant animated screen behind the artists, with fire, smoke and lasers throughout. The Kings Hall was also topped with Chinese ornaments and lights.

Wrapping Up

This unique dance music cultural event was one of a kind, and nothing like any other show done at Avant Gardner. The attention to detail and beautiful decorations combined with talented artists made the weekend unforgettable. The crowd was electric and took in every aspect of the event, participating in the night market activities between dancing to music. Stay tuned for next year’s annual Spring Festival with even more surprises.
