KASSO Fest Skate & Sound Takes Over Long Beach

KASSO Fest Skate & Sound made its official U.S. debut in Long Beach this past weekend, and it did not disappoint. Bringing together skateboarding, live music, and a completely different competition format, this event felt more like a full-on experience than a typical contest.

Originally launched in Japan, KASSO blends skateboarding with obstacle-course style challenges, putting riders through multiple stages where consistency, control, and creativity matter more than just landing a single trick.

This was the first time the event has ever been held in America, and choosing Long Beach turned out to be the perfect move. The energy, the crowd, and the overall vibe made it clear this format connects with U.S. skate culture in a big way.

Chaos, Creativity, and a Whole New Format

Instead of traditional judging, skaters had to survive a series of increasingly difficult courses, with each section testing different skills. From fast downhill runs to technical rail sections and unpredictable obstacles, it pushed everyone outside their comfort zone.

The final stage, known as the Million Jump, lived up to the hype. It was massive, intimidating, and honestly looked nearly impossible to complete.

No one was able to land it at first. After multiple attempts and heavy slams, it seemed like the challenge might go unfinished.

But then came the twist.

The Final Moment Everyone Will Remember

With no one clearing the final jump, the organizers gave all remaining skaters one last chance.

That’s when Jiro Platt stepped up.

He put it all together, landed the run, and became the only skater to complete the final stage, taking home the win and the $10,000 prize. It was one of those moments where the whole crowd knew they just witnessed something special.

Music + Skateboarding Done Right

KASSO wasn’t just about skating either. The “Skate & Sound” part delivered.

The event featured live performances from artists like LaRussell, Andy Mineo, EARTHGANG, and The Mainliners, with a DJ keeping the energy going all day between runs. It created a festival atmosphere that kept people engaged whether they were watching the course or just vibing to the music.

That combination of skating and live music is what really sets KASSO apart. It’s not just a contest you watch, it’s something you experience.

A Huge First U.S. Event

For a first-time event in the United States, this was a massive success.

Between the unique format, stacked lineup of skaters, live performances, and the Long Beach setting, everything came together perfectly. You could feel that this is something new for skateboarding, and something that has real potential to grow.

From start to finish, it was chaotic, fun, and completely different from anything else out there.

Final Thoughts

KASSO Fest proved that skateboarding events don’t have to follow the same formula. Mixing obstacle-style competition with music and festival energy created something fresh that both core skaters and casual fans could enjoy.

If this is what year one in the U.S. looks like, we’re hyped to see what they do next.

Safe to say… we’ll be back next year.
